There should be no mistaking the difference between house cats and feral cats. House cats will have had a lot of their wild instinct naturally breed out of them due to their evolutionary interaction with humans. People say they are ‘cat people’ or ‘dog people’ and this usually has some aspect of allergens as many humans find that they can have severe allergic reactions when coming into contact with cat fur. House cats can be trained, though not as easily as dogs. House training in a cat is relatively simple due to their naturally hygienic nature however teaching a cat tricks can take a lot of patience and some cats will just never submit to training in this manner.
Feral cats in contrast to the domestic cat can be found in feral colonies. These cats may have been born in the wild or they may have been abandoned or mistreated house cats that have reverted to their natural instincts to survive. A feral cat will have a much shorter lifespan than a house cat and is likely to be killed by dogs or other animals, even starvation. Many volunteer centers are now set up worldwide to reduce the population of feral cats through neutering at an early age and release back into the wild. Once a cat is feral it almost impossible to adapt to being a house cat, though many feral cats will react reasonably friendly towards humans due to the association with food from friendly cat lovers who leave it out for them!
